Make Gir Ears Stand Up

TRAVELS WITH HENRY A NICE (FRANCE)

Nice - France, 9/19/1907 to 9/21/2007

Nice is a city French Riviera also called the Côte d'Azur (the Riviera), near the border with Italy in the department of Alpes-Maritimes. Today is the 5th largest city by population in France and airport Nice-Côte d'Azur is the second busiest in the country France. This is an eminently tourist town attracting tourists especially British, Scandinavians and Americans. In 1990 the city population was 345,700 people, reaching 933,080 inhabitants in the entire urban area in the 1999 census . The city of Nice is situated in the Mediterranean in a narrow plain bounded by the Mercantour massif. The city limits to the west Var valley and east by Mount Boron. Several hills overlooking the city, the best known of these is the Cimiez Hill with its Roman ruins. The Château hill separates the port city.

Here in Nice I had been in 1997 in the Hi Hostel Nice - Mont Boron which is next the green part of Mont Boron on a hill which affords a splendid view the city . It is 4 km from the center of the city and 4 km from the coast. We arrived there and did not accept me because I had lost the hostel card. After talking and telling the receptionist he was returning to the hostel after 10 years and tell that at the time the showers were mixed (I said that now they were not), finally agreed to stay friendly. As we arrived very late Nice, just go up the bags (because the truck was on the street) and after dinner pasta with tomato sauce, we went to sleep.

Overview of Nice from the HI Hostel

The second day we slept until noon advantage that we had a bed and around the city. In the center left the van in an underground car park and visit the marina area. Just there in the fishing port and we find the first topless women sunbathing on the rocks. Then we walked along the promenade and we found the monument to the fallen in the First and Second World War .

From here you can see a very similar Nice Piriápolis in Uruguay . This is no accident, because the architect was inspired Piria the promenade (with palms and sidewalk) of Nice to make Piriápolis.

walked along the picturesque promenade and then lunch at Mc. Donald's we made at the pebble beach to appreciate the Costa Azul embellished by topless women.

Then we took the van and went for a walk at Cannes which is just 10 km along the coast. In the evening we returned to Nice for dinner and sleep because the next day we had to travel to Barcelona in Spain , because we were expecting a Mauricio known we were going to stay in your home.

An interesting fact related to Uruguay: Nice region was bombed on May 26, 1944 by Allied troops on maneuvers in preparation for the Normandy Landing . After World War II , Nice is governed by the popular mayor Jean Médecin (mayor from 1923 to 1941 and from 1947 to 1965) and his son Jacques Médecin (mayor from 1966 to 1990). Jacques Médecin fled France in 1990 following several scandals of political corruption. Three years later he was arrested in Uruguay and extradited in 1994 and sentenced to prison.
